Grampian Ladies League
The Establishment of Grampian Ladies Bowling Association
Inverurie Bowling Club, established in 1884 was the springboard for the Grampian Ladies Bowling Association.
In 1984, S.W.B.A councillor Mary Fraser was asked to make enquiries, whilst attending meetings in Glasgow on how the Associations were run and bring back the information. Consequently a steering committee was set up to look into whether it was feasible in this area and how much interest there was in the various clubs and as you know the rest is history. Inverurie was made the Headquarters for the Grampian Ladies and remains so to this day.
In 1985 the Association was born beginning with league games and Sunday friendlies. The Ladies were all very enthusiastic about the league games , plus of course the tournament games and play-offs. To represent our area in the Torrance Purvis was an honour and being a Grampian lady bowler has been loved by many players feeling the team spirit and sense of belonging to a worth while Association.
Grampian Ladies' first singles champion was Mrs W. Naismith in 1986 and of course not forgetting Wilma Forbes who won the Champion of Champions five times - quite a record.
Inverurie Bowling Club is very proud of all the Ladies who have achieved a distinguished record within the Grampian Ladies Bowling Association.
