Casino Night 10/10/2011

The bowling club hosted a Casino Night on Saturday evening and proved to be a huge success once again. More than a hundred people enjoyed the evening and were also treated to a feast of stovies and oatcakes at half time. Pundits were invited to try their luck at Blackjack and Roulette and the chip leaders at the end of the evening were awarded some excellent prizes. The tickets and betting tables made an amazing profit of £1009, and needless to say, healthy figures were also posted after the evening's bar takings were totted up. A huge thank you to Barry Sangster and his entertainment committee for organising the event as well as sourcing the prizes for the evening. Also, not forgetting all Barry's helpers who did an excellent job as croupiers for the evening, as well as our army of junior members who ensured the roulette tables went smoothly by gathering and sorting the chips between rounds. This years "Casino King" was Kevin Duguid who retained his title following last seasons success. He scooped a fantastic prize of a one night stay at a top Glasgow 5 star hotel.

The semi finals will start at 6.30pm and 7.30pm, with the prize giving to follow at 8.30pm. The final will commence at approximately 9.00pm. This is an informal social evening for prize winners and fellow members to come along and enjoy a drink at the bar and enjoy the conclusion of the singles. It is hoped that this new format will be more readily attended than the previous "all ticket" presentation dance evenings. For those involved with indoor bowling this season, the competitions have been drawn up and are now available in the Indoor section in Club Competitions 2011. A league table section will also appear later with regular updates on all the points totals. A new competiton is also being tried this season for a 2-4-2 pairs league on Thursday afternoons. The format will be teams of 3 and a sheet will be on the notice board for those interested in taking part.
Georgie Fraser Memorial 2011 22/09/2011

The inaugural Georgie Fraser Memorial trophy was held this season at Ellon Bowling Club. This pairs competition will be held annually in memory of Georgie, a long standing member at Ellon who also played in the Grampian Ladies team. The competition is open to all clubs affiliated to the Grampian Ladies Bowling Association. Inverurie were represented by two teams, with Rhona Jarvis and Wendy Dalgarno reaching the final. Closing of the Green 18/09/2011

The 2011 outdoor bowling season is now over with the green being officially closed today by President Jim Downie. Unfortunately due to the poor weather conditions, the closing of the green was not as well attended as in previous seasons. However, the "spider" did raise £30 for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Hat was won by Andy Wood, Wendy Dalgarno and Joyce Bruce. This years prize giving will be held on 30th September on the night of the indoor singles finals. All prize winners and members are invited to come along to this informal social evening. The semi finals will start at 6.30pm and 7.30pm, with the prize giving at approximately 8.30pm and the final to follow. Members are encouraged to come along during the evening to watch the bowling before prize giving. This years Ladies Champion was Joyce Bruce who won her first championship this season. As she will be on holiday on the 30th, she collected her trophies today from Jim.
A special mention also to Jason Banks who today skipped his rink to a comprehensive 36-14 victory in the Scotland against North England SYBA match which Scotland won overall. A report is now available on the SYBA page.

Fashion Show 16/09/2011

This years Fashion Show took place on Wednesday night, with more than 100 people attending. The total raised looks set to be well in excess of £1000. The models were all members of the club and I can certainly say that the Gents had a great night back stage and on the cat walk. Many thanks to the suppliers of the clothes - Fountain of Port Elphinstone and Gibb's Menswear of Inverurie. Obviously without their help the event would not be possible. A big thank you to all who helped on the night, and especially to Nan Singer and Sheila Wood for organising the event. A selection of photos and video clips have been posted in the gallery and in the social events section, with hopefully more to follow soon.

The finals of the Famous Grouse Triples 2011 were played on Saturday 3rd September in superb bowling weather. The trophy was won by Inverurie's team of Gary Cruickshank, Barry Middleton and Steve Wilson, beating Ron Booth's Kemnay triple in the final. It is the first time in nearly 30 years that an Inverurie team have won the competition. This years sponsors were Inspire Flooring, West High Street Garage and Tor Ecosse and the club are extremely grateful for continued support from these local businesses. Everyone at the club who helped over the three days play should be congratulated for making the competition a huge success. However, special thanks to Bruce Middleton, Bruce Stewart, Gary Macdonald and Andy Wood for their help co-ordinating and updating scores and also all our helpers in the kitchen. More than £1000 was raised and I'm sure the bar takings will also boost club funds substantially. Unfortunately, Jason Banks could not retain his Junior Singles title, going down 21-11 to Connor Milne of Tarves. His Dad Colin also lost out at the final stage of the Champion of Champions, losing 21-18 to William Thom of Kemnay. Kintore were crowned league champions, beating Kemnay 7-4 in the play off.
Inverurie were also represented this weekend in the prestigious Deveron Triples competition, with the final stages being held at Banff Bowling Club. Steve Wilson's triple of Gary Cruickshank and Steve Angus along with Graeme Thomson's team, playing with son's Andrew and Martyn, both made a decent account of themselves. Unfortunately, both triples lost out by 1 shot at the Quarter Final stage to Norman Barker of St. Aethans and Marshall Presly of Tarves respectively. The competition was won by Graeme Donaldson, Graham Alexander and Andrew Barker- a formidable trio at any standard of competition.

Your Club Needs You! 17/06/2011
Recently due to staffing difficulties we have been unable to open the bar on some Sunday nights. This has not only inconvenienced members wishing to use the bar, but has also made it difficult for members to access the clubhouse and changing rooms.
The committee would like to set up a rota of volunteers willing to staff the bar on an occasional basis. The more volunteers that come forward the better, as that would keep the calls on willing individuals to a minimum.
If you would like to volunteer your services please add your name to the notice in the club or speak to any of the committee members. Appropriate training will be given and you can be sure that your efforts will be much appreciated.
