Well done to Jason Banks - not only has he made it through to the district 3 junior singles final, but has also been selected to represent Scotland at Junior level for the second time.  Unfortunately, the other Gents were both eliminated at the semi final stage, Colin Banks losing out 20-21 to Doug Fraser of Kintore in the singles and Jim Bruce's triple lost out 15-9 to Peter Davidson, also of Kintore.  The finals will take place at Ellon Bowling Club on 19th June at 7.00pm.

Bowls Scotland District Championships

PictureLadies Senior Fours District Winners 2014
Congratulations to our Ladies Senior Fours team skipped by Joyce Bruce who have booked their place in this years National Finals at Ayr.  Playing along with Irene Whyte, Babs Jaffrey and Wendy Dalgarno, Joyce managed to draw the shot with her last bowl when the game was against them.  That closed off a fine 14-11 victory against the ladies from Dyce.  Unfortunately, Maureen Sinclair of Ellon was too strong for Rhona Jarvis in the final of the senior singles.  The Gents played their quarter final ties this week, and there was mixed fortunes for Jim Bruce who was left in two competitions.  Ian Fraser of Pitmedden got the better of him in the senior singles but his triple had a fine win against Phil Moir of Belhelvie to progress to the semi finals.  Colin Banks and Jason Banks both had wins in the singles and junior singles but sadly the pairs were edged out.  All our Gents left in are playing their semi finals at Pitmedden Bowling Club on Thursday 12th June at 7.00pm

Gents District Championships

It was a successful day for the Gents in the latest rounds of the district championships.  In the afternoons matches, both Jim Bruce in the Senior Singles and Bill Dalgarno's senior fours team progressed to the next round.  Jim Bruce was back in action in the triples at night and had another fine 19-6 win along side John Bruce and Gary Macdonald.  Both Jason and Colin Banks progressed in the Junior Singles and Singles 21-17 and 21-12 respectively, and the pairs duo of Gary Cruickshank and Steve Wilson triumphed 20-11 against old team mate Andrew Thomson of Westhill.  The only bad news was the defeat for Norman Burnetts Fours team, 21-10 against Westhill.

Coffee Morning

Once again folks, we had a very successful coffee morning, due to the efforts of all who helped, contributed and attended.  We raised the princely sum of around £600.  Many thanks to all, whether it is a contribution of a pint of milk, a jar of broth (which I enjoyed for lunch), a batch of home bakes, a bottle of whisky or flavoured water - every donation is much appreciated.  As is the attendance of club members, family and friends, many thanks to all who attended and put their hands in their pockets.  We as a committee appreciate all the help and support offered.  Kenny Gillies.

Two Rink League Cup Final

It was a close run thing in the two rink league cup final, which was played at the Garioch Indoor B.C on Sunday 6th April.  The trio of Sheila Wood, Bill Cassie and Jason Banks (skip) lost by one shot (10-11), but the triple of Jim Duncan, Andy Wood and Gary Macdonald (skip) triumphed 16-14 to give Inverurie the cup by a narrow one shot margin.  The opposing triple from Insch needed two shots to tie the score overall. Their skip George Duguid came up short and could only secure a single shot so fortunately for Gary Macdonald and everyone else's nerves, he did not need to play his last bowl and Inverurie claimed the trophy.
